NWSEO Premieres Facebook Live for Presentation of the
“Delegate Voting Amendment” at 2016 National Convention
To attend the Convention in Salt Lake City, please make reservations by Sept. 2
August 26, 2016 print copy
(August 26, 2016) The NWSEO Constitution Committee will present a working draft of an amendment designed to change delegate voting for positions on the National Council (Regional Chairs and Vice Chair) during the 2016 National Convention. In the interest of full transparency, NWSEO will broadcast this presentation and any related debate on Facebook Live. This is a new endeavor for NWSEO, it will give all members insight to our convention in real-time during the presentation and related debate.
Utilizing Facebook Live is new endeavor for NWSEO as we work to bring the convention directly to all of our members. The convention is open to all members and will be held on Sunday and Monday, September 25 and 26 at the Salt Lake City Marriott City Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. In order to get the negotiated room rate of $108 per night, reservations must be made by September 2. Reservations can be made online at: Salt Lake City Marriott City Center or by calling (801) 961-8700. Please mention that you are an NWSEO member and attending the convention in order to get the negotiated room rate.
NWSEO was able to achieve a cost-effective method of Direct Vote Elections that would replace the current Delegate Vote Elections, according to the draft language of the new Delegate Voting Amendment. Members are encouraged to review the draft amendment language, and provide their input/comments to their elected Convention Delegates. Delegates’ names are listed on the Convention News page by region under the heading, “2016 Delegate Votes per Branch.”
While this new language would increase transparency, it also has far reaching implications for our union. During the drafting and review process of the amendment, it was determined that the amendment increases the potential for management to influence NWSEO elections, increases the probability of skewed elections in favor of larger regions, reduces the opportunity for minority candidates, changes the leadership positions from managerial to a more political nature, and may have additional impacts.
The National Convention is the governing body of NWSEO. Presenting the Delegate Voting Amendment working draft at the convention will provide the opportunity for robust debates from the floor of the convention. All members have access to view the working draft and the explanation of changes. All members have an opportunity for input on these important changes via their elected Convention Delegates.

NWSEO 2016 Elections – List of Delegates and Votes per Branch
August 22, 2016 print copy
(August 22, 2016) The 2016 NWSEO Regional Chair/Vice Chair Elections will take place at the NWSEO National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 25-26. This is a Sunday-Monday convention. This year, we are posting the names of the delegates and the number of votes for each branch on the NWSEO Convention News page. The delegates will attend the convention, vote on the issues on the convention agenda, and participate in voting during this year’s election of NWSEO Regional Chairs and Vice Chairs. If a delegate cannot attend the convention, the alternate delegate will cast the designated votes for the branch.
A delegate holds one vote for each NWSEO member in the branch represented. Please review this important information and report any updates and corrections to the Credentials Committee Member for that region. On each region's delegate list, you will see the number of votes available at the branch. Please keep in mind that the delegate may not cast all of the available votes because any NWSEO member who attends the convention is entitled to cast their own vote (thus reducing the number of votes that the delegate will cast).

The annual convention is open to all NWSEO members. You are encouraged to attend, participate in discussions, and vote. If you attend the convention and are not a delegate you will cast your own vote and the delegate for your branch will have one less vote to cast on behalf of your branch. For more information on the NWSEO National Office Elections and the National Convention, please read the 2016 NWSEO Elections Letter.
To submit updates, corrections, or changes to the delegate lists or branches, please contact the Credentials Committee Representative listed on that specific region’s Delegate Count Page. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 will be the final day to submit updates or corrections.
